The boys soccer program had 37 students attend tryouts and have rostered 20 Varsity players and 17 Junior Varsity players. The CS Red Hawks Varsity team enters the 2025 season with experience, leadership, and high expectations. Fifteen players return from last year's roster, including an impressive core of 11 Seniors. Among them is striker & third-team All-State standout Ian Stearns, last season's leading scorer, who will again lead the attack. The Red Hawks' defensive unit is anchored by the Senior trio of Connor Hansen & Jacob Smith in the center, alongside versatile left back Avery Umphrey. Between the posts, Junior Brody Klenk returns after a standout Sophomore campaign in which he set a program record with 15 clean sheets. In the midfield, Senior Austin Grice will look to build on last year's goals and assists total, providing both creativity and work rate across the pitch. Cedar Springs will aim to contend for the River Cities Alliance conference championship, with tough competition expected from defending champions Allendale, as well as Lowell & Coopersville. The Red Hawks open their season at home this Friday, August 15, against the Muskegon Western MI Christian Warriors, a program with an exceptional pedigree, including three consecutive Division 4 state titles. Last year's meeting between the two sides ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw. Other notable non-conference matchups include a trip to face Division 2 powerhouse Fruitport on August 21 and a home date later in the season with Traverse City St. Francis. All home matches will be played at Red Hawk Stadium, with JV kicking off at 5:00 p.m. and Varsity following at 6:45 p.m. This season promises high-quality soccer, fierce competition, and many memorable moments.
